SW. Alentejo and St. Vincent Natural Park, Portugal
(Parque Natural do SW. Alentejano e Costa Vicentina)

Photography from St. Vincent coastline, in the extreme wild shore, under dramatic light, sky and ocean facing "Caixões" ("Coffins" ) spectacular cliff.

"I am in the crest of the steep slopes right in the beginning of the trail that would hike trough. The light is still very dark, rain, the ground is slippery. I am at 105 mt. of height face to the sea. Down there I see the steep slope and the spot where I intend to photograph. Even after the descent, there´s 350 mt. of walk in the inlet, jumping in the rocks, sometimes very polished and slippery. [...]

[...] I reach the cliff at 70mt. of elevation, it is a prominence, a "cape" end that stretches out for the sea and ends down there in a fishing ground of laminated layers of schist, the "Furna do Mirouço" ("Mirouço Cavern"). When I reach the fishing ground, I check that I am still approximately 50 mt. of distance of the inlet backwards of me! And perhaps about 15 mt. of height above the sea level! And there´s no trail anymore... The only solution is to walk on the fishermen´s rock, which is raised in laminated layers, slippery. I detect a rope, a lot difficult to reach. It is attached in several points, and the purpose is to cross by the sides of the rock - going around it. There is no alternative. Without this rope, it would be impossible to cross. I´m going forward, still many meters above the sea, but with space to put a foot at a time with the rope to hold my life. After the rope, it is necessary to jump for the rolled pebble of the inlet."

Beautiful Helio! I love the sky color in this too. A good blend, although I detect some minor haloing around the rock on the left. Very pretty. Sounds like a very interesting, albeit hazardous, place to shoot.

I really like this. Geat sky color and the water looks very nice. Nice work getting this. I like the way you composed it.

Wow, this is beautiful Helio and it was sure worth risking your life to get down there! Thanks for including that write-up I enjoyed reading it! The arch and the outline of that rock in cobination with that nicely blurred, but still textured flowing water and the light crawling around the rocks is really nice. Maybe a hint more detail on the shaded rocks side would improve this even further? :toast:

Wow, what a rock formation. I like everything about this image but there seems to be (at least to me) some hallowing on the leftside of the rock.

Gorgeous all around, Hélio. I love the dark textures in the rocks and the great color in the sky. And the motion in the water, and the shapes of the rocks. All of it!

Great rock formation and love the colors. The wave action is perfect. I wouldn't mind seeing a little more detail in the rocks on the right. Great scene.

Beautiful Image. I think I kind of like a small crop off the right, but this is absolutley fantastic as is.

Thanks for the input so far :wink:

Can you read my article, considering it´s in Portuguese :biggrin: with all that Internet automatic translations and such... :confused: well, if you do (and I would really like it), say something, it´s all about Extreme Nature Photography from my last Spring trip to Southwest Portuguese Seascapes in the wild. :toast:

Can you believe this, my heart was beating like hell when I was processing this image
:biggrin: Really enjoying this, brings to my personal experience moments that will last for my life :wink:

@Bill
@Elliot
About the halo, what to do about it... guess I can try to fix a bit taking out some sharpness on that spot...?
I recently posted on digital processing discussion forum about this. Here it is:

Yep. Guess I can try it out and repost soon. Thanks for addressing this.

glad you decided not to HDR this to death!

LooooL!! :jump: Man, that sentence is killing me laughing! Great way to put it.
Now seriously, as personal style/interpretation, I wanted to maintain the "dark" feeling of the scene.

Sounds like a difficult place to get to but very well worth the trouble. There's a lot to like here. Beautiful colors, nice wave action and I like the rim light shining through the hole in the rock. Great work Helio!
