I'd like to try another post from Waterholes Canyon. Thanks for the comments on my last post from there, but I was pretty disappointed with how it looked here in the forum compared to my files. So let's see what happens with this one.

D700, 24/70 @ 55 mm, tripod, circ.pol.; f9, 1/200, ISO 1250, -1.33 EV

Thanks again for all your great feedback.

Those few patches of green make this a winner for me.

This is Waterholes? Feels like it's closer to Zion. Impressive light and depth.

Wonderful color and a different view Catherine. I like this a lot especially the green patches and the beautiful light on the canyon walls.

I like this one--nice subtle light and good even exposure. Very cool!

Nice exposure and comp Catherine, love the little greens in the end. Maybe lighten up the lrc just a tad.

I like this a lot and find the bottom part a little more interesting than the very top. A slight crop would help for me. Also, I would tend to add a little more contrast, but I like a lot of contrast. Overall, a very nice image.

Thanks everyone, for the comments.

Rudy and Mike: You're right, I think it does look a little better with more contrast and more light in the rlc. Appreciate your feedback. I'll spin the dials some more.

Catherine - I am curious why you chose an ISO 1250 when you had a tripod? I would expect you would have more noise to deal with.

Looks like a wonderful place, you've captured the light well.

Hello, Harry---
Thanks for your interest. Good question. We were a group of photogs on a workshop and were hiking back out of a slot canyon on a longish desert hike. At this point we were on the move and shooting mostly hand-held in areas that were still dark. With the D700, noise is much less of a factor especially at high ISO ratings. So I had set my ISO for those conditions; I didn't want to use flash. This happened to be a spot where we all did pause for a drink of water and a breather, so I set up my tripod for a few shots. Just didn't change the ISO. Even at that I only got 1/200 at f9; it was still pretty dark. I evened out the highlights and shadows a little bit in post-processing.

Hope that answers the question for you. Welcome to NPN, btw, and hope you're having fun here-- and out in the field. Thanks again for your interest in the photo and what I was doing. :wavey:
