Uh-Oh!

We had set up camp nearby and came over to the Eggs for sunset, hoping an approaching storm would stay to our south, but no luck, soon after this was taken the area was enveloped by the thunderstorm. We had winds at over 45 mph and heavy rain for the next 8 hours. To say the least, it was not a pleasant night in the tents. Any critiques you might have would be most welcome, and thank you to everyone for your comments on my last post. Please see the larger version.

Even though you missed out on the sunset color, the dramatic sky was certainly worth the effort. I love the detail you captured in the larger version.

What a great shot! Sure it's not a pretty sunset, but wow it has lots of mood and drama to it. Love the comp, detail kicks ass and the exposure is handled perfectly. I love it!!

The detail in the larger version is terrific! The dramatic sky in this makes this image stand out from other shots I've seen from the Eggs. I also like the even lighting the clouds provided, as there tend to be some harsh shadows on the eggs til after the sun goes down. As a minor nit, there seem to be a few dust spots on in the clouds, but otherwise, Nice work!

Great capture Scott, off course the fg elements are cool, but I really like the drama in the skies here. Makes this a little different take on the usual "eggs" shot. Nice work.

Nice shot Scott! I like the detail in the foreground; it really pulls my eyes in to the main body of the image. I’m with Eva, I love the drama of the sky.

Spectacular, almost scary light. Even the rocks seem to be cowering.

Nice drama Scott which adds to the feel of the image. It looks good with less color and makes you focus more on the content. Well done.

Wonderful, Scott. I love the shapes and textures in the formations. I'm sure they'd make a great subject on their own, but the sky adds so much to this image. This is really gorgeous.

scott - i actually prefer this to many of the versions that i have seen on this site. the ominous clouds mirror the shapes of the 'eggs' and add mood to these formations. nicely done.

Incredible. The smaller version seems a touch soft overall, but it's not an issue in the larger version, and the detail really is quite something.
What I did notice in the larger version is that along the horizon on the left edge you have a processing booboo, as there's a very abrupt change in the sky's darkness that would suggest you had an unfeathered selection separating the clouds from the land. You've also got some dust spots scattered around in the clouds. Both are minor issues and easy fixes, so excellent work overall.

Very nicely done. Composition, exposure, color and processing look great. Awesome detail as well.

Only minor nit would be a stray dust spot in the sky.

That is one fantastic stormy sky you got. It might not have been fun in the stormy rain but at least you did not come home empty handed. Plus those trips are the ones you really remember for enduring the elements of nature.

Excellent comp and mood. Quite a threatening feeling. The contrast from foreground to sky is also nice.

Sweet clouds and mood here, Scott. Wonder what this would look like in b/w? Either way, this is really neat. Hope you had a non eventful hike back out... I would think that t-storms would make that place messy.
