Cook's Meadow

Sure, an icon...but an ephemeral reflection made it worth capturing in my book. Full disclosure: I cloned out some cars from the parking lot across the meadow.

What a place - very well captured, Kartik. The reflection is flawless. The left side looks a bit blocked up. The equally dark reflection makes this even stronger. Just a thought.

Thats a cracking reflection of a mid morning/afternoon shot that really works well. I might soften the contrast a fraction but I quite like the density of the shadows that are dsplayed here. I noticed what look like little scratches all over the reflected portion of the sky but on viewing the larger image you can see that it is actually grasses beneath the water. Lovely shot.

astonishing reflection. perhaps a little more room at the top and bottom may have given a little more breathing space. but very nice.

So pristine, it's hard to believe. With the number of photos that come from this place, I'm generally underwhelmed by them. This one, however, is a real stunner.

My only idea would be to crop a bit off the left (4x3 ratio probably) to remove the blurred reflection, but I can see many reasons for leaving it just as it is.

Stunning shot...the reflection is perfect. The left side does look a little dark, which distracts from the overall image. Otherwise, this is terrific.

Looks great!!! Don't care about the cloned cars though...

When did you take it?

Spectacular image. Strong composition and remarkable reflection. Must have been dead calm since there is no indication of any ripple in the water. Think you could pull back a bit on the contrast though.

Hi Mark,

I captured this on 5/9 around 9AM or so....there was a storm rolling into Yosemite, so the sun was playing hide and seek with the clouds...I got lucky getting the spot-light on the falls, not to mention really lucky that with all the cloud movement, there was little wind on the valley floor. Of course, that changed quickly, and rain came down on us all within a few minutes of shooting this one.

BTW, there seems to be excessive contrast and dark shadows in this web image, compared to what I see in the original Adobe RGB file. The conversion/compression is not helping the detail either.

Oh this is super, icon or not. Real nice work Kartik. I would have probably cloned the cars out too. Would be awesome to see in a large print.

Beautiful vibrant colors and I love the crisp reflection. I might prefer a little more space at the top of the bottom to let those peaks breathe, but still awfully nice!

Fantastic, one of the best Yosemite Falls reflections I have seen . Did you use a ND Grad filter?

great reflection capture. I got a good one of this in the spring of 2005 but this one is better. You might consider brightening up the top and bottom lhc but the reflection is flawless
