Lost In A Winter Forest

There is an area of lodge pole pine along the highway up by Crater Lake that always intrigues me with repetitive thin vertical trunks. I have photographed there a few times, but never liked the images. This time the light was perfect and I opted to try slow shutter speed vertical pans. This technique always yields many fails but sometimes one or two good ones. I'm pleased with the way the depth, geometry and misty effect came through here.

Canon 5D II, 24-105mm f/4 L, 1/10 sec at f/22 and ISO 50.

Seems everyone has a shot like this now, but I haven't seen this combo. There is a certain depth that is really nice and I think that is helped by the more saturated distant trunks.

This is definitely the best pan shot of this sort that I've seen.
I really like how the trees seem to fade into a mist.

I'm not a big fan of the whole nature blurs movement, but like this image A LOT and agree with Floris' comments that this is one of the coolest blurs/pans that I've seen. Inspiration to maybe even try this technique myself, thanks for sharing and great image!

Very Cool !! I like this alot Sean. When I look throughout the image it looks like it is moving and has sort of a 3D effect.

I like the image. It is graphically very engaging and the hint of sunset is soothing. Not everyone has a panned shot like this! Two trunks spiked down!! Nevermind.

It's all about the right subject matter with these. I think this is perfect!! The strong verticals against the white really works. The cleanliness, and symmetry all add up to make this very strong. One of the best I've seen.
