Motmot

This is a Turquoise-browed Motmot, the national bird of Nicaragua.
The story: Enroute to the Carara NP on the Central Pacific coast of Costa Rica we came across several motmots that were feeding their young. They would return to the trees above a dirt bank along a very busy rural highway, and then fly into the several burrowed nests that were built into the roadside bank. I shot this from across the road and had to push the ISO to get as much speed as my kit would yield. My hope was to capture enough sharpness on the eye to render a respectable image.
Thanks for looking.

That's a pretty cool image. You did manage to hold the sharpness in the eye. I particularly like the shadow of the Motmot and of course the very cool triangular tail that you can still see in the bird. Nice work.

Nice catch, Chuck. I think you could have dialed back on the compensation-it looks like the white brow patch is pretty well blown out. That would have given you a bit more shutter speed as well. Beautiful light and action. :toast:

The shadow makes this shot for me Chuck, very cool. I agree with Dennis regarding the whites and ev. :toast:

An interesting bird that I didn't get to see while I was in Costa Rica, I had no idea that they used burrows for nests.

I like the burrow being in the background and that you obtained some sharpness in the eye. Agree with the brightness on some of the whites and that less EV may have helped with that.
