Bison & Barn

On my first trip ever to the Jackson Hole area last week I was fortunate to stay just a few miles from Mormon Row and the famous Moulton barn. For my second sunrise shoot at the barn I chose to make images from an elevated position (on top of my vehicle) to gain some separation between the barn's roof and the Teton's in the bg. That decision turned out to be fortutious because about 30 minutes after I set up a herd of bison came walking down the road and right into my composition. Their timing was off just a little because the sky wasn't dramatic and the light was just starting to light up the Teton's but I was nevertheless pleased to have this unexpected element in the iconic shot of Moulton barn.

5D, 24-70L @ 35mm, 1/30 sec @ f/13, ISO 200, 90% FF, clone out a partial bison at LL

Thanks for looking.

I think cropping most of the space between the barn and the left edge of the image might make the comp a lot more focused. Interesting shot!

Great perspective!
Did you get over to the other Motlton barns, a bit down the road to the right?
A very interesting bunch of historic buildings. When we're lucky, as you were, bison, coyotes, or antelope join the images.

Neat!. I like it!
After seeing the comment on cropping off the left side, I agree with that. It would help bring that little bit of water in on the right side, and focus more on the bison and their direction of travel. Good image!

Wayne, I really like the perspective you achieved here simply by getting on top of your vehicle. It makes an iconic shot a little bit different than all the others we see from here. How fortunate you were to have the bison move in as they really add a lot to the image. I would agree with cropping off a little of the left and also straightening the image a bit. Very nice!

Wow, what a cool image! How fortunate for you the bison wandered by - it adds a special touch to an oft-photographed spot. Maybe straighten it a bit, and I'd crop off some of the top, and you've got a winner. Nice work!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your comments. I do like the crop suggestion with some off the left & some off the top too so if I decide to print this I'll make those changes.

It's been mentioned that the image needs to be straightened but if you were to drag a horizontal & vertical line to the barn's doors & windows you would see that the image is perfectly level based on those reference points. Thanks again for looking and leaving a comment.
