Barred Owl

From this weekend. I had another, full frontal angle on this hunting barred owl, but opted for this one partially obscured by the swamp maple leaves. The upward gaze was a plus as these guys are usually intent on looking down for crawfish. The overcast made for very soft light.

I like this composition, David. The leaves frame the bird well, and the detail on the whole bird is quite sharp. :toast:

Very nice comp, David, and razor-sharp. I agree the soft light is quite nice.

gorgeous details and great pose, David. I also like how the leaves frame the bird. it's a little tight for my personal preference.

Beautiful portrait. At first I wasn't sure about the composition, as it's kind of a "tweener", between portrait and full body, but I think if you cropped more, you'd lose the added interest of seeing those talons. Very nicely done!

Outstanding detail on all parts of the bird. Terrific angle for seeing the contrasting patters of feathers in the ruff and belly. :toast:

David,

I love the soft light, the way the leaves come into the frame and the super look into this owl's eyes. Very well done. Appealing image too.
