Meltdown

Encinitas, California

One from an amazing, nuclear sunset back in December. I posted a couple from that night earlier this year, but decided to go back and see what other comps I had played around with that evening. I was drawn to the way the water seemed to melt off of the ledge.

Canon 5Dmk2/Zeiss 35-70. 2 stop hard gnd and double processed image to control the out of gamut yellows and reds.

Crazy display of color motion and water! Great job here! :toast:

I wonder what it would look like with a 1/3 horizon?

Wow, the combination of colors, textures and shapes are really wild, and beautiful! It's almost abstract, but still very realistic. Can you post your settings? And don't you just love the Zeiss lens?

That is some serious color. And you had to back some out? Wow. Probably not at the top of my favorite JG's, but it must have been one heck of a sunset to witness.

Well... that sure is a lot of red! Other than the intensity of the color, however, it doesn't grab me so much. I think I like it more with the sky cropped out.

Very beautiful, especially strong as an abstract. Quite a gorgeous image!

Jimmy,

When you use the word nuclear, you're not kidding! Intense color, backed off or not... The comp ain't too shabby either and I would say you've found a gold mine with this location that just keeps on producing.

Floris and another comment about the sky makes me think that the included sky is either, a. too much and should be cropped out, or b. not enough and would like to see a tad bit more.

But honestly, surf's interaction with the shelf and the intense color are plenty to keep me interested in this beautiful seascape.

Hey jimmy,
This has a very Yin/Yang feel to it......even with the bold colors which I love.....very serene!

The highlight streaks in the water almost seem to float above that color. Very cool. I like your comp, and might even consider a tighter crop along the top - just above that lower band of yellow. Maybe even a 4x5 crop - focused on the left side. ? Anyway, I like the painterly effects here - the contrast with the rock edge.
