Sorry haven't been here much lately...I miss all the great work! I just returned from my Arches tour this morning and wanted to share my newest night image from there. Only had this one oportunity as the clouds came in.....but it made for some great day time ops! The light area behind the R formation is the city lights of Moab.
Canon 1D Mark 3 with the 17-40mm lens at 17mm for 30 seconds at f4 and ISO 6400. Noise Ninja used sparingly in post.

Cool sky. Nice combo of stars and the highlight from Moab. Looks like some very faint light painting? I like the subtle look to it.

Amazing what the camera can pick up in 30 seconds! It would be better had it not been for all those lights on the horizon but great work anyway.

Thanks guys. Yes Harley, I did forget to mention "painted with flashlight" in the specs.

Nice job Roman. I actually like the city lights glowing on the horizon and the light painting is very cool. Great sky too.

Roman,

Excellent starry night image. I continue to be amazed at what can be accomplished with todays technology. I too was wondering about the foreground light - I like that the painting is not overdone. And the city lights on the horizon... I think it could easily be explained by a rising moon not yet over the horizon... eh? :-)

The milky way adds a great deal. Nice work.

Absolutely amazing! I'd loved to have seen a bit more detail in the rock but I guess you can't have everything. This is a very minor nit on a great image. I'm amazed that you have managed to so greatly reduce the noise for such a high ISO.
