From a month-long kayaking trip through Alaska's Inside Passage.

Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks

Forgive me, but I struggle to find the appeal on this one. The fg rock is big, unatractive and way dark. The sky is super bright, and not enough contrast in the mntn range. You had a great sky though. Did you capture any of the scene w/o that big rock in the fg?

Elliot,

I do like the sky and the mountains. In fact the atmosphere almost has a mystical feeling to it. Something you could certainly play with in processing as far as playing with contrast, etc.

I'm gonna have to agree with Rick though that the rock is so dark and contrasts so much with the rest of the scene that it's really kinda "blocking" the viewer from enjoying the a scene from the Inner Passage. If you do have any detail in the original file it may be worth trying to pull some detail out the darkness.

Of course after the fact won't help now, but perhaps a higher vantage point would allow the big rock to be separated from the background. but I suspect you didn't have the option and plus the rock is big enough that even getting closer would be counter productive. anyway, just some thoughts.

I'm sure you had a great trip and we'll look forward to more images from your experience.

Love that background, I don't think it needs any contrast, but find little benefit to the foreground. Bet that trip was amazing though.

Thanks for the comments. Very much appreciated. I agree that this photo needs some work and that a different comp would have been better. This is one of those photos that was posted somewhat spur of the moment and upon looking at it longer I can see how it comes up short.

The top of the FG rock traces to a pretty good degree the shape of the peaks in the mountain, and I like the idea of that. Got to agree that the FG is just too dominating, though. Perhaps try cropping the FG?
