Pinxter Flower

Rhododendron nudiflorum, a native azalea that grows in the foothills along the Blue Ridge. The school where I teach has about 35 acres of woodlands behind it; a natural laboratory that I try to put to good use. Anyway, we have many of these growing as well as Mountain Laurel. All comments/suggestions much appreciated.

A beautiful bloom Philip, and I love the circular patterns of the background.

Well done, Philip. Just enough dof for all that's going on in terms of lines and other form. I like your comp as well.

A very whimsical looking flower Phillip. Nice color, good DOF for my tastes, and a really nice BG.

Great to see these. (They are a lot like Early Azalea or Mountain Azalea that seems to be more common in my area.) Excellent details and DOF. The flowers grow so densely they can be difficult to photograph. Great job isolating this bunch.

BTW, Did you know Pinxter is a Dutch name? Around Albany, NY and other Dutch settlements in the Hudson River Valley, they used to celebrate Pinxterfest around the first monday in June. I heard it was a wild festival centuries ago, but it has been mostly forgotten.
