Monument Valley Icons

Taken on my just completed tour of Arches NP and Monument Valley. I only had the 1 attempt at the night photography as the clouds were around for most of the trip......so swithced to sunrise/sunset times. As this storm cleared....we got the subtle pinks in the sky....so I helped them out w/ an enhancing filter. Yeah....I could swith WB....but had the filter from film days so used it!
Canon 1D Mark 3 with the 17-40mm lens at 25mm for 5 seconds at f22 and ISO 100 all tripod mounted and 2 stacked grad ND's. Desaturated the reds about 20 points in post and cropped to a pano.....mostly to eliminate con trails....but also like the way it accentuated the mittens.

Wonderful color in the sky Roman. I love the quiet mood and detail in the larger view.

Spectacular light, Roman. An icon with light beats and icon without light any day.

Killer clouds and sky make this an icon shot to remember.

The buttes themselves look a little funky to me for some reason. A little to bright and contrasty perhaps? The sky makes the simple composition work just right, and I'm sure this format was the right choice.

Sweet scene, colors and light. I have to agree with Kent. The buttes and even the foreground seem a bit over processed, even on the larger version. Perhaps it is a simple sharpening issue? Nonetheless, what an amazing sky and overall scene you captured.

Sweet sky man. Pano crop works for me. I might try pushing the mittens more red to differentiate them a touch more from t he sky.
