I am really appreciative of Ian Plant's input to me for checking out Devils Garden. I was expecting to get there by sunrise, but rather foolishly loped along the washboard road that approaches it, so didn't make it there until sometime aroud 6:45am. But still the light was good, and I was lucky to get some pretty favorable cloud conditions. Dont know what these formations are called, but that's my name for them. For this I used a bit of perspective correction in CS4 to correct for some of the convergence, and worked a bit of HDR to bring out the shadows.

Hey Bill, really sweet image. I've heard some people call them the "Grumpy Old Men," although I don't know if that is an official name. I'm glad you made it there, albeit perhaps a little late! Better late than never, as the saying goes, and this shot proves it. I think the clouds work really well with the land forms. :toast:

What an amazing sight Bill, and the clouds are just right. Really great job.

Amazing rock formation. I'ld be tempted to crop a good portion of the tree and clone out the rest (in order to leave some room between the little guy on the far right and the edge of the frame) as I find my eye being pulled over to the tree....probably due to the green color. Nice light and great clouds!

Fantastic picture Bill I like how the clouds seem to be smoke rising from the "heads". Stunning shot!

Wonderful clarity and color Bill. I really like the orange rock against the deep blue sky. Nice work.

Very neat formations, and a nice comp of them, along with the nice light. My only concern is the sky - the clouds look unnaturally blue IMO.

Certainly eye-catching. Fascinating formation, I like the shadows here. Some slight haloes, most obvious on the medial aspect of the fourth stone.

Great sky to go with this landscape. Sweet light even if you missed sunrise.
