This Acorn Woodpecker is the same female that I posted feeding her chick. She was just about to depart the top of the decayed tree which housed her nest.

Thanks for viewing. Your comments are appreciated.

Nice photo of her exiting the nest. Shows the underwing well. Interesting stump as well. You could selectively sharpen the head a bit more Charles to get it just as sharp as the breast. I would also suggest cropping a bit more, taking some off the left side, the bird will still have lots of space above to fly into since that's the direction she is heading.

Nice action, and I do like the overall composition. Only thing I wish for is the head to be turned back towards the camera a bit.

Nice action, good job on the exposure. Neat perch. As Terry said, I wish for a little head turn.

Chuck:
Good timing on the take-off shot. I'm enjoying your Acorn Woodpecker action - it is a bird I don't see in my area.

cool action pose, Chuck. I agree about wishing for more head turn and a little more sharpness on the head.

A bit of a head turn toward the camera would have made this much stronger, but birds generally look in the direction they are going as this one did, so getting that odd head turn in this case would have been very rare.

I like this as presented Chuck. You caught an interesting pose with take-off from a unique perch and the lack of head turn doesn't bother me in this case. Overall exposure looks good and since I'm not fond of square crops your comp works for me.

An interesting moment captured,,,,,I just wish the head were in the place of focus.

I like the action Charles, the view of the open wing is very nice. Though I might wish for more of a head turn towards the viewer I like that you were still able to show the eye this well. I agree with the other issues mentioned.
