Wall to the Sun

by Nicolaus Wegner

Taken along the Red Wall in Central Wyoming during sunrise. This scene lasted about two minutes before the clouds swept over the sun and blocked it out for the rest of that morning.

Any comments or critiques, positive or negative, on the photo, are much appreciated.

Manual blend, 7 images. Most work going into the sun flare in order to save the highlights from being blown out. It's bright, but all the information is still intact.

Thanks for looking.

Sounds like a lot of work with a seven image blend but I like the result. Just wishing for a larger view.

Love that expanse down below. Nice golden tones too. It feels like its tilting cw but could just be illusion.

Excellent job on the blend, nice light! I agree with the apparent CW rotation.

This is one incredible blend. I think you were very successful in your efforts, and what a dramatic scene. If I had to make a suggestion, and I'm really stretching here, it would be to maybe do a gradient burn of the top of the image 'cept for the right side. A bit of a vignette effect at the top would keep the viewer's eye in the frame a bit better.

As the title would suggest, I love the way the huge land formation is used to sweep the eye around toward the sun. I would say that the shadows in the plain could stand to be a little darker, maybe in the sky too, but that is up to you really. I think it's beautiful either way.

Nice work with the 7 image blend. I really like the foreground leading line which leads the eye to the background ridge, then on to the sun star. Well done.

Thanks for the comments and critiques.

The tilt is an illusion. The wall actually runs all the way across the scene to the left. The very far right of the image contains lower hills that are in the background. If I rotated the scene, the flare lines would not be vertical. ;]

I'll give the darkening a try.

Thanks again.

Nice job on this photo. I really like how the mountain on the right hand side really leads my eye along the photo. Looks like a beautiful place.

A fantastic shot Nicolaus and the blend is amazing. I also see a bit of tilt, but reading your comment guess it's natural.
