When Times Were Tough

Playing around with atmospheric techniques...A summer sky and winter lake bottom from Tennessee. An elephant from the Knoxville zoo. Lightning, meteors, stars, and moon were created in PS. Your comments are something I pay attention to... thanks in advance. I've also posted a larger image.

Marc,

I was waiting to see how long it would take until your incorporated one of the elephants into some photo art... I like this a lot and the setting is really great. I'd experiment with moving the smaller meteor to the middle of the image (in the upper 1/3) as I keep expecting it to slam into the elephants head. I'm also not crazy about the "J" shape in the elephants trunk.. it looks out of place, especially since there isn't any food for the elephant to be eating. I know you try (succeed) and blend the natural and the mythical but it is the only element in this photo that screams photoshopped to me. I think with a more relaxed trunk position, this can be achieved. (Btw, didn't I see an example of one of those new fancy schmancy PS tools for CS5 manipulate the position of an elephant trunk? This should be an easy fix!)

Pretty cool image! Did you add the dust around the elephant's feet? The lightning bolts look awesome

Yes, I added the small dust cloud around the elephant's feet to convey a bit of motion.The dust was one of 16 different layers that had 9 different layer masks. The lightning was created with brushes in PS.

This is totally freaky, Marc, I love it! You really should go get some real lightning pics though--its not that hard, and it would look much better than the PS stuff
