Mourning Bath
by Bill Maile
Got home from an appointment a short time ago, and this little beauty was sitting waiting for me-didn't realize the subtle colors they have. Had my camera w/ me and got off about four shots, this being the best. Profile would have been preferred, but...
Hope I got the ID right that it's a male Mourning Dove. ISO-100, 1/125th at f-3.7 as my camera must have been set on auto. Thanks for looking!

3 commentsRich, why are you calling me Charlie??
And Richard D., I went by this... "The adult male has bright purple-pink patches on the neck sides, with light pink coloring reaching the breast. The crown of the adult male is a distinctly bluish-grey color. Females are similar in appearance, but with more brown coloring overall. The iridescent feather patches on the neck above the shoulders are nearly absent, but can be quite vivid on males."
The blue on the crown of the head comes quite clear on my monitor. I'm by no means an expert, so if that's wrong, please let me know why it's not a male. I'd appreciate the knowledge.
Also, I've seen these guys/girls a bunch, but never realized how colorful they are from the front. The pastel pinks, blues, yellows, etc. were quite surprising and pleasing.
