Gnome Canyon

by Doug Koepsel

A sunrise image in what I will call Gnome Canyon in northern Arizona. An area of formations from Dakota sandstone, Entrada and bentonite create interesting layered bands, hoodoos and gnome-like characters.

Nikon D90, Nikon 18-105@98mm, f/8, 1/100sec, ISO200, center-weighted, cpl.

Nice shot, Doug. Great light. Nice comp with just the right amount of sky. :toast:

Pretty shot, Doug, some nice formations here and good color contrast from sky to earth. Looks like youir focus was on infinity and you lost some sharpness up front--could have avoided that with f/16

Doug,

I really like your composition and I especially like the light striking the gnomes, goblins, or hoodoos that really makes them the main focus of attention. I think you've also managed the exposure very well.

This is quite excellent the more I look at it.

Sunrise here has been difficult for me. I like the comp and light you found.
