House Wren (Troglodytes aedon)

This little fellow was worried that I was too near his nest. So, he stayed around me for awhile. Recently a pair of swallows had cleaned out an old birdhouse. He came in and displaced them. I was impressed by a local birder who very quickly and authoritatively identified a similar bird recently to me as an LBJ……until he explained that it meant “Little Brown Job”. Actually, I think that name fits him better than his actual name!

I like the detail in this image despite the fairly large crop and high ISO. A deficiency are the branches “growing out of the bird”. I’m not sure how serious this is. I welcome your comments on this or on any other aspect.

EOS 7D, EF 400 mm f/5.6: ISO 640, 1/1000 s, f/9.0, image is 2404 pixels x 3005 pixels = 7.2 MP or 40% of the 18 MP of the 7D. Selective NR, slight exposure adjustment, sharpening.

Nice detail Steve - I'd be tempted to take some off the LHS

cheers

Steve,

I like the pose of the wren, the great eye contact, sharpness, colors and details. The twigs don't bother me at all, I quite like the habitat.

I might leave more room on the right and remove some off of the left if this were mine, but composition is personal preference.

Nice LBJ shot. I like the detail in the photo. I would also suggest cropping off of the left side, or if you can move the bird more to the left. I would remove the twigs in the LLHC if you can't crop them out. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for your comments. It seems that the branches are o.k. but many of you would prefer to see the bird located more to the left. So, here is a repost showing that. Again, I think your experienced eyes have picked a superior composition! Note that an OOF branch has now shown up at the right and appears almost as an artifact. It is present in the raw image. I decided to not attempt to clone out any of the branches….although I can see that a cleaned-up image would be more aesthetic I just don’t feel comfortable messing with mother nature that much here.

Steve:
Excellent detail and not a branch covering any part of the bird!! I prefer the original post to the repost with the new OOF branch on the right. :toast:

I prefer your repost compositionally. Excellent detail on the wren and the branches don't bother me at all. Sharon
