Reddish Egret
by Mia McPherson
Egretta rufescens
White morph in breeding plumage
I found that Reddish Egrets were probably the most entertaining of the wading birds I would see & photograph while I lived in Florida. They dance, they weave, they gallop, they look elegant at times and very goofy at other times too. This egret was actively hunting in the shallow waters of the Gulf.
D200, handheld, laying in the sand on the shoreline, f6.3, 1/1250, ISO 250, 75% of the original frame, natural light. No EV adjustment used. I was using my 70-300mm VR lens because the lens I used most often (80-400mm VR) in Florida was off being repaired. I have provided the larger version for evaluation of sharpness and details.
As always, I sincerely appreciate your comments & critiques. Thank you for looking.

I don't think it would work as well in any other position.
Neat shot!

Great pose he gave you. Details and lighting look good. The colors of the bill and lore are really cool against the pure whites of the plumage.
Thanks for posting,

How could you wait so long to post this one? Great wing position exposing the entire body of this impressive bird. As others have mentioned the dark wave is in perfect position as bg for the breeding colors (not many colors on this bird!). Outstanding!
