Common Tern

On friday I visited a dredge spoil island that has been cleared of some of its vegetation (in conjuction with the USFW Service) in an effort to restore Tern Habitat. At least 150 Common Terns were seen on-site as well as a pair of (Federally Endangered) Roseate Terns. Unfortunately for me, we were there when the sun was awfully bright making proper exposure difficult but it didn't prevent me from taking a good 400 shots.

Nikon D300s 300 f4 + 1.7X TC HH
f/8
1/2000s
ISO 640

Full Frame, sharpened bird, no noise reduction.

A nice capture, and a fine job of preserving detail in both blacks and whites.

Luke:
Can you return when there is better light? Or was accessibility only because the visit was work-related? It would be great to be able to return when you had more favorable light.

Very nice Luke considering the midday lighting.

Good job on the exp I'm not fan of dead center framing however. With that said this works for me better then most

Looks like you handled the exposure well despite the lighting you spoke about Luke. Nice job and I think the centered comp (left to right) works for this head on flight shot, but not sure I like the room you gave top and bottom. I think I might have done more of a pano personally...but that is just personal preference.

Good work with the exposure with that bright light, and a fine view of all the ID features of this species.

Nice shot of the Tern Luke , I haven't gotten any flight shots of this species yet, only their Black cousins.

Luke

I like the flight pose and the look you seem to be getting from the tern. Nice work getting a catchlight in the eye too.
