Black Rhino munching

This shot is from a series of a mother/daughter Black Rhinoceros images taken in The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy near Isiollo, Kenya. The thorns on the Whistling Acacia branch she is munching on are 3 to 4 inches long and very sharp by human standards, tasty to her. The coloration of the rhino is due to the clay of her favorite mud/dust bath location.

Canon 30D Canon 400 2.8 1/90th @ f2.8 iso 200

Thanks for looking.
Comments always greatly appreciated.

I really like that I can see both eyes and the angle is good as well. I would like a little more room on the bottom for the feet

Nice capture Neil - the color is great, I wish that other rhino's back end wasn't in the shot though...

Great low angle. Like the vegetation in the mouth as well. Would like to see a little more on the bottom.

I like the thorn bush, the expression and the ear shapes! I think we have seen her in an earlier posting. I, too, wish you did not have the butt end of the other intruding here, and I agree more room for virtual feet would be preferable.

Good shot! I agree with Luke, more room at the bottom. Wish I had been there to see them!

Nice pose and exposure. Have you tried cropping to make this just a head shot of the rhino? IMHO it would be a very interesting photo. Thanks for sharing.

I love her expression, and those thorns - how does she manage to eat them? I agree about the crop suggestion above, and have put one up here. How does this grab you?

I would have liked to meet one of these "tanks" but i only saw mother an son far away in Ngorongoro. I agree about the butt end of the other (child?) rhino, but i like the two eyes are visible. The repost shows very well how soft must be those thorns and how she feels comfortable munching them,as well as the details are excellent..
cheers Luca

Doggone it, her face is even cute! Yep, the crop really is a winner! Love it. Good suggestion given and well applied.
