Great Blue Heron

This GBH was nicely perched in a Cypress Tree. It was late afternoon with light clouds providing a nice even light source. Ambient light, no flash. Infact I never use flash for avian photography. Taken from my truck with a bean bag.
This is in response to a comment about beans in my bean bag. I tried beans but it required 20 lbs to fill the BLUBB (Big Lens Ultimate Bean Bag sold by Arthur Morris) The bags are custom made for Arthur by this company: The Vested Interest. I now use Polypropylene beads which required only 10 lbs. to fill the bean bag.

Model NIKON D200
Flash Used No
Focal Length 560 mm - Nikon 400mm f/2.8/d ED-IF AF-I with TC14EII
Exposure Time 1/250 sec
Aperture f/5.6 - Stopped down 1 full stop
ISO Equivalent 320
Exposure Bias -1/3
White Balance-Manual Daylight
Metering Mode matrix
Raw
Exposure Program aperture priority

Well and expertly done. Sharpness, DOF, comp (love the framing foliage!), soft background and lovely light.

This is beautiful. I really like the foliage hanging down beside the heron's neck.

The cypress and moss framing the heron are sweet, BB. The soft light and faraway bg complete package. You even left room for the virtual feet.

Gorgeous, the lighting is wonderful, and the little trailing veg is very nice. Only wish is for a tad bit more room at the bottom, if you have it. :toast:

I love this as posted - it has an almost mystical quality to it from the light, color, and setting.

Have you posted this here or elsewhere before - I'm almost positive I've seen it or a very similar image before.
