Bird on a Wire

Hello All! :wavey:

Haven't posted or commented too much lately.

I always try to make it out to the cabin early, but I'm constantly distracted by the photo ops along the way; accordingly, I get delayed, but I don't mind.

Here's a juvenile Rough-legged Hawk. Photographed under an overcast sky which can always prove to be a challenge. I would've preferred a nicer perch, but you have to take what you can get.

Canon 40D, EF500mm f/4L IS, f/7.1, 1/2000sec, ISO 800, spot metering, no flash.

Cheers

Not a preferred perch but I'd have taken this shot with no hesitation and been happy with it Derrick. IQ looks good at this size. There must not have been any significant breeze since I suspect that the hawk would have had a difficult time with the perch and here it looks fairly stable with the exception of the spread tail.

Nice shot, Derrick. I don't mind the wire perch-they've become preferred perches for lots of species.

Really handsome bird Derick. You placed the wire in an artistic manner, perfectly horizontal and dividing the frame in an interesting way. No shortage of overcast light in Alberta this spring, I wonder how it would look if you increased the exposure just a little bit to give the whites a bit more sparkle and brighten the eye as well. I would be VERY happy to have taken this! :toast:
