I recently posted this on the PNW forum. I'm trying to learn B&W conversion, and this is a photo from a few years ago from Yosemite. Comments welcome.

The square version is really something else. This is quite a special image... well done!

Thanks, Rick for recommending the crop. I've learned so much from experienced members on NPN.

Excellent. What a great take on the flowers over flowing water genre. Could see darkening the top and URC just a bit.

A beautiful image and a sensitively handled conversion. Well done! I'd like to see a smidge more detail in the flowers but that's only a minor nit.

Very elegant photo. The tonality in your conversion works well.

Elegant and simple. It must have been quite calm to get such lovely water blur and sharp blossoms.

Richard,
This is a beautiful capture of the dogwood over the Merced. This is one of my many, many images I carry in the back of my mind when ever in Yosemite. I really love this rendition. Two things that stand out are the luminosity of the blossoms (gorgeous light!) as well as the DOF and the flow of the water beneath/behind. In fact I would be real curious to know what the color was in the background. Depending on location and time of day you can get blue, green, orange, yellow and dull... But whatever the original looks like, the b&w rendition really pops for me.
My only nit/suggestion would be for a little more room on the left to give that one blossom a bit more room. But of course don't know if that's the cropped side or that's the edge of the frame. Regardless, I would love to have this one in my portfolio!

Hello Lon, This is the color version. We arrived at this location at abut 5 AM and waited for the morning light to hit the Merced river. Thanks for your comments.
