Arenal Volcano #2

Here is another shot of the Arenal Volcano at night. I posted one interpretation of this incredible sight last week. Thank you for your comments and insights on that one. This image is a much wider view than the first. I find both intriguing and am interested in hearing your thoughts. Still a great time and an incredible sight.

Canon 5D, 17-40 @ 40mm
8 minutes @ f/4
ISO 100

Larger version included for critical viewing.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Very cool shot. That lava is electric. I would go for a 4x5 crop, eliminating that tree on the left.

Keith,

Super stuff with the lava AND the star trails. I'm headed to Guatemala next week and there is an active volcano and this photo certainly serves as an inspiration.

I do not care much for the star trails but I absolutely love the lava veins!

It feels totally other worldly, Keith. I definitely like the stars better in this one.

Keith,

Fantastic view! I recall your previous version. I think they both have great impact, this one just more of a landscape variety impact, but still pretty powerful and a great nature story. I really like the smoke or whatever that seems to be streaming off the top left of the volcano; subtle, but a cool and noticeable element.

Kinda torn about the tree top on the left. Not much you can do and not really that big of a deal. Also, I'm not a digital expert, but the sky seems a bit noisy. But put this all together and I think you've got a great image of nature at it's finest.

Sweet shot! I do agree that a cop off the left to eliminate that black tree or whatever it is might help. I like startrails and kinda feel like more would be cool here. Those veins of lava in the large version are very nice.

Wow. I'll have to say it again- wow!. I can't even imagine how cool it must have been to see this in person. The exposure for the star trails is beautiful and really accents the lava flow. Amazing!

Keep 'em coming Keith. Great phenomenon and that star swirl gives it wonderful added interest. A typical National Geographic kind of shot - and that is a big complement!
