Red-tailed Hawk

Hello All :wavey:

A Red-tailed Hawk. Taken a couple of weeks ago in the early-morning light. Might be a bit centered, but I wanted to keep the far right branch in view as I feel it adds to the photo.

Canon 40D, EF500mm f/4L IS+1.4, f/11, 1/1,000sec, ISO 400, spot metering.

Cheers

Very nice pose. I feel like the image could be opened up a tiny bit. Nice to see the talons.

Great eye contact and nice lighting Derrick, the image feels a little centered to me but I can see why you composed it the way you did with the branch on the right. :toast:

Very nice, Derrick. I like the pose here. I agree the branch adds to the photo. I prefer a bit more room at the bottom if you have it. :toast:

Derrick,

I like the pose of the hawk and can understand why you compsed it the way you did, that branch adds to the image rather than detracting from it. I like the light in the bird's eyes, the wet feathers and the soft grey/blue sky. If you have more of the original frame at the bottom I would add a touch back there, the tail feels tight on the edge of the frame to me, but comp is mostly personal preference.

Rules are made to be broken, this comp works fine IMO.
Great details and I like the bit of catchlight there...
Still hoping to get close enough to our red-tailed here. One actually landed on the ground near our feeder last week, but gone before I could fire up the cam..
Well done :toast:
