The best Barred Owl shot I have ever seen. Beautiful pose, details and eye contact. Very nice perch as well. A tiny bit tight on the left.

A sweet image. Although I really like seeing the typical vegetation of this bird's normal habitat, this plain background works very well and makes the image unusual. The soft light here is wonderful.

David - gorgeous shot!
Not the tiniest nit from me - great pose, nice detail, great branch, and complimentary BG.

Hi David, Is he smiling?? What a stunning picture.. the diagonal line of the branch gives it a great comp, and what I like is the crispness of the subject against a blurry background exc DoF.

David,

This is simply awesome! The detail in the little feathers on the head is striking. When I look at this I understand why the eye detail is so critical in avian photos. Thanks for sharing!

David,
Since I'm late to the party here on commenting I wont reiterate what has already been said. I will simply say that I agree with what everyone has stated about this being the best shot of this species I've seen. Simply Superb David!!

Thanks for the feedback and kind words everyone. I still prefer the mom & fledgling photo I posted awhile back, but the alert pose does make this one different.

A grand image of a Barred Owl: I've never seen one in this alert position. The perspective is terrific, providing a full view of the entire bird. I'm still learning about DOF on 500 mm lenses (haven't had mine very long), but I'm surprised by the excellent DOF at f5.6 given the distance (small crop). :toast:

Another good one LB. Too bad that most of the time they just sit there and do nothing. Wonderful details and lighting. I think I have a shot or two of that owl. Did you ever see the other owl that was calling from deeper in the woods.
