Fragile

Another from one of my favourite places - the Gorges du Doubs on the Franco-Swiss border. Here, I was attracted to this boulder in mid-stream adorned with its own 'bouquet' of flowers. Above the boulder, the oppressive presence of a limestone cliff looks like it might crush the flowers at any moment.

Getting this shot meant hiking to this spot in waders and then standing, thigh-deep, in the water for around half-an-hour while an amused couple preparing to camp for the night looked on. I guess the sight of someone standing in the river and patiently ministering to a camera seemingly from the 19th century must have been rather bizarre.

I like this a lot. The juxta position and contrast of the delicate flowers against that slab of limestone is very powerful. My only nit is that I would have liked the full reflections of the flower to be visible rather than slightly truncated.

Wonderful composition and use of light. This shows such a sensitive eye and connection with the subject.

I think this is great Julian. Delicate and simple, works great for me.

Really nice. I also think that I'd like to have the whole reflection of the flowers in there, if possible. Nice perspective, and this has a nice calm feel to it.

Love the intimate composition, especially with the flowers and greenery. Could see it as well with a crop off the top, but either way I like it!

Worth the annoying looks and the cold water... This is really elegant, even mysterious a bit. Certainly tells a story and speaks to me. What is only hinted at here seems to be a really beautiful reflection on the lower right bottom - got some more of this..?

Well worth the effort IMO. Love that little island of vegetation against that stark backdrop. Good stuff!
