Masked Trogon

Finally found some time to explore the photos from my recent trip to Ecuador with Nate. I was like a kid in a candy store, all the subjects were fresh and brand new. We found this masked trogon at Bellavista, one of several great places we stayed and photographed at. The trip was incredible as were all the folks who photographed with us on this unique adventure.

I appreciate all your comments and suggestions.

Trogons are one of my favourite birds in South-East Asia. I would love to see this South American cousin one day. Beautifully taken!

awesome bird, Ken, and nice details. I might darken the top of the bill just a little.

Ken, Fantastic subject and you did well isolating it. I do wish the OOF branch at the bottom were not cutting across the tail-but I do understand the degree of difficulty in getting this shot. Beautiful sharp details. Well done.

What an amazing species! Would have excited me too to see this species. The details on the larger version are phenomenal. Super pose and perch.

Only change I can think of is to tone down the bright spot in the background top near the head. It draws the eye away from the subject.

Thanks for sharing this. :toast:

Cool capture of a gorgeous bird, Ken. Wish that bit of branch crossing the tail wasn't there, but obviously you made the best of this opportunity.

Great detail and nice saturation of color...I'm jealous of this "exotic."

Hi Ken,
Great looking species. I especially like that eye ring. The colors are just beautiful. The branch across his tail is unfortunate but the strong colors of the bird directs your eye more towards the upper part of the image so that the branch becomes less of a distraction.
Thanks for posting,
Ronnie G.

Fascinating these Ecuador species, it must be a fantastic trip. Lovely looking bird with beautiful colours and great detail. I use to have this camera set up and you've done well to get the whole bird sharp at f5.6 and the noise level looks fine for iso800. Graham

That moss along the perch adds well also.
