The weather finally cooperated so I was able to get out this morning and photograph some dragons! :jump:

Found this one near my favorite pond, which I am happy to report is slowly making a comeback from the spring thrashing it took.

Nikon D300 w/105mm Micro Nikkor
1/20sec. f/11 ISO400
Tripod, sb-600 through a diffuser for fill.

Thanks for looking. :wavey:

I love dragonflies, and this is a nic eone!
Nice sharpness on the face, body, and perch, and the dew is great.
The blurry wings detract a bit for me, but we get what we get!
A good thing to try to do is shoot at the highest ISO your camera will handle, then you have a better chance at sharpness with slower shutter speeds.

Great detail on the body. Nothing you can do about the OOF wing except for a focus stack (if the subject cooperates) . I really don't like the idea of boosting the ISO due to the effect it has on detracting from the nice detail. :wavey:

Mark, note I said "as high as your camera can handle" - this will have no effect on detail if done well.
I always shoot at 640-800 minimum for animals/birds/critters.

Joel:
This is really gorgeous. Tack sharp on the DF and I also like the perch and clean BG. Nothing more one can wish for. :toast:
