Quileute

A beautiful evening on the beach at La Push, WA. My family and I stayed at the Quileute Indian Reservation in 2008 for part of our vacation in the fantastic Pacific NW. I visited here in 1982 and 1983 and felt this was a place they (my husband and our two sons) had to see.

Edit: BTW - This is actually before sunset. The reflection in the wave puddle is the sun not the moon. Just my exposure for the highlights gives this the sense of a moonlite beach.... Sorry for the deception.

Canon 40D
Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II at 16mm
ISO200 1/180sec f/11
SR LB Color Combo Polarizer

Cropped to a 4X5 format to suit me.

Thanks for looking and for you critiques and comments.

A nice moody night on a beautiful beach. I like the moonlight, the quiet surf and the shadow of the "haystacks." I wish the moon had been a bit more down and visible in the sky, but the mood is solid and really works to portray the scene.

This is really beautiful. I like the composition and the haunting mood. There are some noise issues most likely due to long exposure plus ISO 200. I think this could go darker which will reduce the noise too.

Thanks Phil And Kah Kit.

Kah Kit - The original was a bit darkerker but I brought up the shadows and super darks maybe too much. I will rework and repost tomorrow. Thanks for the input.

Great moody image and I like the comp and dark sky. I do notice a bit of noise in the rocks.

Dark and mysterious. I love the placement of the reflection in the pool and the shimmering spot in the ocean. Looks like a scene out of a fantasy story.

You so know how to do beaches, Eva. The subdued light here really makes it for me. Used to live in coastal WA state, and this captures it perfectly.

It certainly does look like the moon. But reality doesn't matter here. Well done.

Beautiful Eva. Love how you exposed and processed this image with the darker tones in the sand and seastacks. The central placement of the pond really works well in your composition. You really have a wonderful gift for making coastal images.

Dark and mysterious! Exposing this to the "darkside" created a beautiful mood. I also like the comp. a lot. The pool in the fg and the 4X5 ratio make this very balanced.

Stunning scene Eva!. Love the overcast light, and of course that patch of water with the reflection. Super photo.

Very creative use of the luminous foreground here, Eva. Very nicely done. Quite moody and very appealing with this being the Olympic Coast and all. My only small nit would be the sun reflection touching the edge, but it's pretty minor.

Really cool mood here Eva. I love the moonscape style trickery. My mind wants to crop this off the right even more lending a more isolated mystery. Great job though with this one.
Thanks for sharing

Eva,

Wow, what magnificent mood and atmosphere in this one. I first thought that I might want to see the seastack/islands darkened a bit, as if they were dodged too much or something, but in the end it's the glow of the light beaming down from above that creates that mood. and the glistening of that light in the water is wonderful. The reflection tops it all off and the inclusion of the sun is putting the icing on the cake. Wonderful image!
