I believe I have the dragonfly species correct on this. However, please let me know otherwise.

Nice dragonfly and perch !
Not sure about keeping the lower right bud in - it doesn't add anything and draws the eye away from the subject .
Needs some good noise reduction on the background.
Can't help on the ID, sorry..

Hi Eric,
Based on other images I've seen of 12-spotted Skimmers, I'd say you're ID is likely right. But I'm no entomologist so don't put much faith in my view here!
I like the simplicity of the image but the noise throughout the image (including on the subject) does detract a little. In this case I think it's reducing the amount of visible detail on the subject and detail is important in macro work.
If this was shot at 1/3200s and f11, you must have quite a high ISO (which would account for the noise). I'm thinking that backing off the ISO, even if it meant pulling shutter speed back significantly, might have produced a more detailed and pleasing image? Just a thought.
Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Hi Eric. thanks for posting a dragonfly, they are very welcome here, but mostly pass us and end up in the macro gallery... I suppose because many dragonfly images are created with a macro lens.
You already received some excellent constructive feedback from Sandy and Brad, all I would like to add is that a slightly tighter crop may work better.

With the tall stem this would have worked well in vertical format.
