Question: The oranges in this image look more orange after posting to the web site than they did before. I've noticed this with oranges and reds in other images. How do I fix this?

Thanks Rich. The problem is that I don't see the color change until after I've posted, and I'd rather not have to make a special version for NPN. Compared with the pre-posting image, the oranges are more saturated, and the greens less, in the posted image. In this image, the oranges in the as-posted photo are a bit distracting to me. As another example, I recently posted a very red sunset that was beautiful before posting, and absolutely garish after. How do others deal with this? Is there something I need to do differently in Photoshop?

The large looks excellent Michele, great work.
The colors just look warm to me, they're fine IMHO.
If you're not happy with this, you could always mess with levels, or your WB settings?
Well done! :toast:

To be honest with you Michelle, Iike the colors just the way they are, I think it is gorgeous.

Michele, I agree with Howard...the image details look great (especially the larger version)...the bird does seem to be a tad too warm. Howards suggestion to lower the WB is correct IMO. As far as the colors looking different once you process. I am no PS expert by a long shot, but I think it has something to do with how you are converting them to jpeg and what color format you are using during processing (i.e. sRGB). I don't know enough about it to provide specifics, but I would suggest doing a search on the internet about posting for the web.

Thanks everyone, for your wonderful comments.

Kurt - If I look at the jpg that came out of Photoshop next to the same jpg that is now posted, on the same monitor, the colors are different. It just occurred to me that this could be a function of the viewing software. I'm looking at the original jpeg in Windows Picture Viewer (or whatever it's called) and the posted image in Firefox. Could that be it?

Thanks again.

Quite possibly. Is there a color profile embedded in the jpeg? Are both applications color aware?

All my viewing applications on my Mac are color aware and interpret any embedded color profile. That includes my primary web browser (Safari) and my alternate browser (Firefox, although I had to toggle a preference for this I think). I make sure that the jpegs I post contain an embedded color profile to maximize the chances that they are seen correctly (at least by Mac users).

I like the larger image and think the colors look fine as posted.

Based on Kurt's suggestion, I did a test. I created a second small version, this time checking the embed color profile box (which I've never done before). I then uploaded both versions to Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/michelewilliams/
The description tells wether the profile was embedded or not. I think this shows the color difference. Does anyone else see it too? And if so, isn't the color profile version better?
Thanks for your help.
