Radiance

Shot this in late fall 2008, and have gone back a few times to try some different compositions but I have never caught the light like this again. Talbot Island is off northeast Florida, also known as "driftwood beach," and "boneyard beach," due to the coastline being covered with driftwood and fallen trees from the eroding coastline. This shot was handheld at 14mm, f/9 1/250 ISO 100, processed black and white with some red filtering in PS to create an IR-ish look. Thanks for looking.

I love IR B&W, IMO they work especially well on a blue sky with fluffy white clouds! The long shadows on the beach are really cool and make the FG as interesting as the driftwood and the sky. Overall a very powerful image! :toast:

I love the sky and your composition, but I do find the shadows against the tree somewhat distracting.

The light here is marvelous, and the bits of sea scum are fantastic as well. I love the synergy between the clouds and light in the foreground. Superbly seen!

What a splendid use of shadows (and of course the filtered light)! I only wish I could see this bigger.

Awesome light. I like how the shadows make this sort of explode out of the frame.

Nice work here! The light hitting the sand really makes this image.

Chris,

Wow! This is totally cool. Only wish there was a larger option as I'm sure this one would really jump out at you the bigger it gets. For me, this is could either be very stark and desolate, or it could be very tropical... I can't decide which, but it gets my imagination going and that means you've pulled off a successful capture, IMO. Great play of light and shadow.

Thanks, Mark! I appreciate that. I'm going to make a few trips to the same spot in the upcoming weeks to see if I can find some more good light :toast:
