North Hirsch

I was up on North Hirsch Creek (out in the middle of nowhere really) about 40 kilometers northeast of Kitimat, B.C. yesterday and I took this image. There are hundreds and hundreds of beautiful glacial streams out here, many of which have probably never been visited by man. One of the things I like best about this image is the color and detail in the foreground boulder. The color of the water is amazing with the glacial runoff this time of year.

While the sharpness of the rocks is outstanding for a compressed image, I feel that the exposure time is a bit too long to fully appreciate the water. The extreme milkiness overpowers the remaining color.

I quite like the effect of the milky blue water around the rocks. Ideally I would like the main rock separated from the ledge behind however.

That's a very good point about separating the main rock from the ledge. I thought of the same thing at the time, unfortunately I was at about the only accessible location for a shot. The areas to the left of frame were much too dangerous to get to. We do what we can I guess :)

I really like this and don't mind the long exposure at all. To me it allows the color to make a stronger impression, though obviously folks may differ about that. I do agree about the one composition nit but I don't think it detracts much. Quite a nice scene.
