The LARGER VERSION is essential for this one.

I was photographing this amazing wall of advancing cloud and was surprised to see this plane - it was totally nuts!

Canon 5D2. 24-105/f4. ISO 800. f11. Simple manual blend of 2 exposures (1/250 and 1/500 sec) captured using auto-bracketing on continuous drive to minimize position shift while handheld.

WoW! Glad I'm not in that plane....

I grew up in the midwest and saw the occasional wall cloud but never got a look like this. What a spectacular photo

Awesome capture. I really like the pattern in the fields too. I am not sure if I might not like this even better sans plane.

Great shot! That's an amazing sky perfectly captured. Without the plane it's a terrific landscape image; with the plane it adds a story to the image. Well done.

This is a really cool image. Well done. It's amazing how much of Nature's power comes out in this. The large view is gorgeous.
On the plane, is it one that's on approach to Billings Airport? Or possibly a weather service or FAA flight looking at all the crazy weather you guys have been having. There never used to be tornados around there!!!!

Thank you all.
Genny, I believe this is a passenger plane preparing to land at the Billings airport, which is about 1 or 2 miles away, but I could be wrong. I didn't see if it came out of the storm, or if had circled around for an approach. Notably, there was a torrential downpour about 15 minutes later, but it only lasted about 10 minutes before it passed.

What an incredible scene! Really powerful composition with nice colors but for me it is the bird escaping from the storm that makes the story behind the scene. Congrats!

Incredible shot! It stands on it's own without the airliner. I might be tempted to PS that out and go natural...what a super capture.

This is spectacular Doug. The large version must absolutely be viewed! I can almost feel the wind and smell the rain. Lots of power in your shot. Certainly conveys the unequal match of man v nature. Montana is getting some monster storms this summer and glad you were there to get this one.

How to improve what is a beautiful and exceptionally powerful image? Maybe pay a bit of attention to the slight halo (from a layer mask?) along the horizon line - it is more obvious in the larger version.
