Galah

Rob and I set up on an isolated stock watering trough on Kilcowera Station, south-western Queensland where mobs of Galahs and other birds were drinking. Galahs are a very common small cockatoo found in open country throughout Australia

Canon 7D, EF500 f/4, tripod, kwik-camo, ISO400, 1/1600, f/9, slight crop for composition.

Really cool! I love these landing / flight shots.
Excellent job getting focus right on the eyes! You nailed the exposure with no blown out whites. The colors also look really good. Excellent job. :toast: :toast:

Terrific! Excellent positions of the wings and photographer (to avoid obscuring shadows). Much to like about this one. :toast:

The concentration on landing makes the shot for me Simon - that and the nice wing extension on the left. Better eye contact with you at this point in the landing process would probably have meant an aborted landing at best - I like the birds focus on the perch.

I can't see how this could be any better. The bird is really concentrating on it's landing perch and the detail throughout the bird is terrific. Graham

Excellent action Simon and the colors look spot on as I recall these birds having in NSW. I esepcially like that we can see the eye but the bird is focused on what it is doing, which is landing. In a situation like this I don't mind not having direct contact at all. Wonderful comp, sharpness and detail, your shutter speed worked extremely well.
