Portrait of a Duck

I decided to get out the other day and visit the seagulls, geese and ducks that hang out at a local park.

This duck was really hamming it up for the camera, although I suspect it was just wanting to be fed.

Nikon D300 w/500mm f/4
1/750sec. f/4 ISO200
Vertex Bean Bag for support.
Photographed while laying flat on the ground trying to avoid Goose poop!

nice looking portrait, Joel. nice pose and details. I think I'd take a little of the green off the top.

Cute portrait. As Brian says, I's crop a half an inch or so off the top to try and emphasize the eye contact.

You caught a great pose. As ducks go, female Mallards, being common and not very colorful, can be a tough subject. But you made her look beautiful. Very sharp with a little catch light. Nice! :toast:

Wonderful portrait shot with detail and sharpness. I like the idea of taking some off the top and maybe a little more in front. Good background to bring out the duck, well done.

I especially like the coy, almost smiling look from her Joel.

Joel,

I like the soft natural colors of your duck, the look you appear to be getting, sharpness & details. As for the comp, I'd take a bit off of the top and add some on the left side of the frame if you have it. But that is just my personal tastes.
