I'm not sure when a bird goes from being a chick to a juvenile, but these guy's have lost their downy feathers now and are approaching the size of the parents.

Canon 50D Canon 400 2.8 w/1.4 ex 1/160th @f5 iso 500

Thanks for looking.
Comments always appreciated.

Hey Neil, aren't these "my" owls? You leave'm alone.

You've done a nice job of getting both birds quite sharp and the front to back poses combine as a study of the species at this age. I suspect it wasn't easy to get both birds as clear as they are and the sky background isn't bright enough to be a bother. I like this a lot.

I'm not sure, Ron.
I thought yours were 700 miles north of here

I have yet to see a GHO in the wild. For you to have the opportunity to get two in one frame is super. I think they are now officially teenagers so you had better watch out!

Well controlled exposure, great details and DOF.
I especially like the one owl doing that 180 head turn, cool :toast:

Even at this young age they look like they mean business. Excellent exposure, especially with the bright sky poking through the leaves. Good dof for f5. Congratulations on finding the pair, I know I sure was happy to find mine.

Neil

I have to find time to get up there and see this owl chicks! I love the setting, the serious looks you appear to be getting, how one chick's body is towards the camera and the other has its back to it. I especially like how one "ear" is showing on the bird on the right.

Neil, What a fantastic capture. I would consider selecting the body of the owl on the right and doing just a tad of sharpening. Would also consider cutting back the green so the birds are even more prominent in your image.

Carol

Well done getting both birds in focus and good eye contact from both.
