Something Different

Ok, this is a bit of a departure from my usual "flower in the field" work. Let me know if it has any redeeming qualities... I think a stacked image with the innards of the flower would be really cool, but alas no tripod (yet...). Thanks

Nikon D300s 105mm f/2.8 VR + 1.7X TC HH
f/14
1/320s
ISO 400

Full Frame, sharpened

Luke: This is amazingly sharp for hand held at this mag. Kudos to the VR system. I'm assuming this is the same kind of flower from your last post. If so the interest is really in the relatively long throat and so I probably would have shot this vertically. Of course 75-80% of my comps seem to be vertical so perhaps my bias and character (upright guy ) is showing. Fascinating subject for sure and one I hope you'll continue working.>=))>

This is such an interesting photo. I can imagine it almost as a carnivorous plant. Maybe even some type of exotic fish. I am enjoying it and am impressed with your handholding abilities at this speed.

It's amazing what shapes the mind can see. This almost looks like a fish mouth near a coral reef or something.
Neat perspective

I see a mouth ready to devour! Okay, it is nearly breakfast time here. Very interesting dof - the water droplet tack sharp leading to soften edges. Great capture Luke. :toast:

I was watching some youtube videos the other day which showed some big fish being caught. The opening reminds me of a big fish with its mouth open. Wonderful sharpness for handheld. Love the details and the water drops. Good Work here, Luke.

Great perspective with the water droplets and the hair. One thing to watch for in these flowers is bees. The travel down the length of the tube to reach nectar glands. Its too long to back our so the bee has to turn around inside the flower. Fun to watch and I tried a few times to capture the bee emerging. Don't think I got it though. Anyway, fun flower and I think this works quite well :toast:

Really different and an excellent on the hand held exposure. It reminds me of the head of a serpant... just missing the teeth!

Hi Luke :wavey: Oh! to be young again. and have a steady hand like you have in the shot!! No tripod, and razor sharp. I agree with the others, on the flower looking like a hungry serpent or piranha  Very crerative, with great detail
