Rolled and Ready

I had spotted this field this past weekend late mid day and thought if the sky is right toward sunset, I'd be back. Unfortunately the Mother Nature did not cooperate until yesterday. After our granddaughter's T-ball game I grabbed my gear and scurried back to this field. Mother Nature still did not fully co-operate, in that encroaching clouds blocked the sun at sunset, but enough open sky allowed for the clouds to glow. My vision for this capture was all about the sky, with the field providing a good vantage point to showcase the sky. Of course I chose this spot because of its photogenic appeal to me, the granary and silo, the lone tree in the field, the gently rolling terrain, and the scattering of the rolls of straw. I hoped I would be able to get back to this spot in time to capture this image before the rolls of straw had been moved. I did.

This particular capture is one image in a sequence of mulktiple exposures captured in quick succession adjusting shuter speed between each capture for a possible HDR treatment. But I felt that this particular stand alone capture had merit on its own.

Canon 50D w/24-105 F/4.0 L IS USM lems at 24mm setting, manually exposed, AF, ISO 100, RAW, Tripod w/remote release

RAW captured processed in LR3

PP in Photoshop CS3, using Viveza, and nik Color Efex 3.0 - Skylight and Polarization filters, Graduated Neutral Density and Graduated Orange filters, Reflector filter, Lucis, and buZZ and a sharpening action.

This type of capture is generally out of my box as I capture mostly floral subjects, in the control environment of my studio, but occasionally I do get out to shoot.

That sky is amazing Steven and the FG is interesting enough to complement such a beautiful sky. I do find the scene a tad too contrasty for my taste (and I tend to like punchy contrasting images!) and would suggest to reduce it a bit. Further I think it needs a very slight CW rotation correction.

Fantastic sky, complemented by the foreground components. I agree with Vincent about less contrast in the sky improving the image, and maybe a tad less saturation as well.
