'In the twinkling of an eye'

Often in photography we are after capturing a high dynamic range and even bracket exposures and blend these to achieve this as camera sensors do not (yet) capture a scene the way our eyes can. Sometimes, however, the fact that camera’s render a scene differently than our eyes can also be a positive if we want to create a certain image, even though it is not a natural looking scene. Here I exposed for the sun and wanted the arch to turn out black for a very graphic result.

Why f/22 you may wonder? Well to get that nice sun star.

Natural Rock Arch, Spitzkoppe,

Camera Model Canon EOS-5D Mark II
Shutter Speed 1/400 Sec.
Aperture Value f/22
ISO Speed 400
Lens EF16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM @ 35mm
HH, crop app 80% or original

You accomplished your goal quite well, Vincent. The photo evokes a memory of being in the desert, overheated and blinded by the sun.

Wonderful glint. Looks a tad malevolent, but I can see where your coming form with this.

Vincent, I'm not an arch guy at all. They don't do much for me, but, your shot here may change that, I like the sunburst and the silhouetted nature. The shape and form accompanied with a simple color palette works well for this guy.

I like the simple graphic presentation here. The sunstar provides a good point of focus.

Love the simplicity; how you have distilled this down to the dark silhouette and the sunstar. Excellent work.
