This may be a little out of the box from the other photos in this theme, but I think it fits. "Old building, rundown and deteriorating subjects."
This is a close-up shot of the lumber that's on an old barn on my property. The barn is dated around the 1850's and is a favorite subject of mine to photograph. It's positioned on a hill that captures both the morning and evening sun. It has never been painted or treated and the weathered lumber inside and out tells the story of the rugged past of enduring Mother Nature's elements.

Manual Exposure with tripod, 1/13 sec, F/8, ISO 100, 100mm macro, evening sun. RAW conversion and sharpening.

On a side note: This was taken with a 8MP camera and usually when I resize for this site I set the image quality any where from 70 to 90 percent. This photo had to be set to only 20% to get below the 200KB limit. Any ideas as to why?
Thanks for looking and all C&C welcomed.

Wonderful warm side light John, it really reveals some nice texture in the weathered wood. I like the detail of the two nail heads but wish there was a bit more room at the bottom for the lower one.

There is a lot of detail in this image, John, which may be why you had to compress it dramatically. I like the image, but wish the top was as in focus as the bottom.

John: If this has endured for over 150 years through Michigan winters I bet it really does have some character. I don't have a good answer to your sizing question. My most detailed shots that have lots of flowers like the ones I posted this week rarely go below 50%. Are you using the Save-For-Web feature? Let me know what processing program you're using and maybe I can give you some more specific advice.>=))>

Hi Bill, The only software I have to work with images is Canon's Digital Photo Professional and Canon's Zoom Browser which both came with my cameras. I don't think it has a save for web feature. I use the "convert and save" feature, then resize the pixel size to 720 and then slide the image quality bar down to get under 200kb. As I said usually 70 to 90 percent does the trick. Even with my 7D (18MP) the lowest I've had to drop down to was 50 percent and even that is rare. Thanks for the comment.

The texture in old wood always grabs my attention John, almost like life lines in a palm. Wells seen. :toast:

Ditto on the warm light being really nice! I can almost feel the texture in this one. Excellent work.

Cool shot, love the textures. Agree that a bit more DOF would have been nice.
