Michael, Very nice work with the flash! I like the sharp details and pose. I do wish there were some more room in front and not behind to off center the bird. It was great meeting you and shooting w/ you yesterday. I look forward to shooting w/ you again.

Hi Michael, Beautiful detail and flash use.
To my eyes the bird feels cramped and squeezed into the horizontal format you have used. One possibility might be to crop from the left to the right of the blurred white area on the UL.
Cheers,
Carol

Nice detail; natural colors. A solid job with the fill as it is barely noticeable.
I agree with those who suggest it would be stronger with the heron out of center, and I'd crop some from ther left edge to help that.

THis is why fill flash can be so helpful!
Nice light on the heron, good detail , and nice environment.

Nice job with the fill flash, I agree re the bird being centered. I think this image would have worked well as a vertical too.

Maybe using the fill flash and off-centering is too much like walking and chewing gum at the same time! LOL Went back to lightroom and I did take the shot without bisecting the rock "YES" !!!!!
Here it is!

Mike, The off center comp. does look much better-might add back in the extra room at bottom though Great job on the repost.

Michael
I like the repost with the bird more off center though I would not have cropped any off of the bottom.
Really nice use of the flash, I can't detect it. I like the setting, details, natural colors and the great look at the eye.

FYI, this is a juvenile 3 yrs. old or younger. They replace the spotted pattern on their heads and grow the beautiful yellow crown at about 3.
