Sacred Kingfisher

An overcast day in western Queensland, this Sacred Kingfisher came and sat quietly on a nearby branch long enough for me to try some different exposure and flash settings. This one appeared most natural.

Canon 7D, Ef500 f/4 + 1.4 tc, tripod, kwik camo. ISO 400, partial metering, f/8, 1/125, ec +2/3, cropped for composition and several distracting twigs digitally pruned.

The colors pop well against the murkey background and the natural perch is really nice especially with the subtle cobwebs in the LRC

Lovely shot! This bird appears a bit more colourful than the ones I photographed "wintering" in Bali a few years ago. The Kwik Camo strikes again!!

Very nice Simon. I like all that color set off by the gray BG. :toast:

This looks very good to me Simon, especially considering the low light. Very sharp and the colors on the kingfisher are wonderful. Interesting perch too.

White sky background are tough and you did a fine job with it. An interesting perch and indeed an natural looking pose - my complements to you for the patience working from a blind. :toast:

Beautiful, Simon. I really like the curves in the perch and the bird is bright enough to hold it's own with the large perch. :toast:

Great job Simon, the conditions were terrible. You've captured some excellent detail particularly along the flanks.

cheers

Simon,

I like everything about this image. The low light helped to accentuate the natural colors, the background is appealing and the bird stands out well from it. IQ looks very good considering the light. Comp looks good too.
