This was taken in my backyard just after the r4th of July. It was posted on the CSNP site and it received favorable comments.
I think this is called a yellow swallow-tail. The tiger lilly competes for the color. I toned down the background for effect.
Nikon D700, Nikkor 100-300 macro, ISO 500, 1/500 sec, f/5.6.

Colours rendered and the contrast of hues are just fascinating...also love the painting like effect in the background...maybe f/8 would have been more appropriate to get the some of the front petals and edge of the butterfly wing bit more sharper...however a marvellous shot as posted...

Lovely. I think your processing is just right. I was appreciating how the main subject colors stood out and the swirly background added drama without overly competing.

Awesome color schemes and nice control of the DOF.

Wow, this is just as much about the flower as the butterfly Larry! Amazingly colorful and that green BG really sets it off well. Nice DOF as well. Thesmall lighter spot behind the wing is a bit distracting, albeit very minor. Good work. :toast:

I think the flower is of the "Gloriosa" family and the butterfly a Charaxes?? Both compliment each othet in their elegance... Shame that the background is blue (looks like tarmac to mee) because otherwise it woul have been an amaxig shot in colours but also in comp...
