Great Crested Grebe

by Simon Bennett

Gallery: AvianPosted July 31, 2010160 views18 comments
Exceptional rains had flooded an outback lake where numbers of Great Crested Grebes had gathered to feed on bountiful fish. The birds allowed quite a close approach.

Canon 7D, EF500 f/4, + 1.4 tc, tripod set low, ISO 400, f/9, 1/1250, cropped for compostion.

A fine image as posted. The angled pose really emphasizes the face of the grebe.

Stunning. Love the nice low perspective and the "I could care less about you" look on the bird's face.
