Sunset Kingfisher

I had a nice session with the local Belted Kingfishers a couple of days ago. Here's one right at the end in the last rays of sunshine. It's cropped to about 75% of FF.

MkIII 500F4 1/2000 F5.6 iso 640, manual exposure, handheld

Nice light showing off the belt nicely! I spent an evening with 2 of them, just couldn't get close enough...they are tough! Good shot.

Nice light and pose, the head looks to be a tad soft.

Fantastic job Nate. Getting an image like this that is 75% of FF is extremely difficult, plus you got this nice light. Good catch light and pretty color showing on this girl.

Congrats! :toast:

Nice one! These guys are tough and you were obviously right on the bird for such a limited crop.

Great light and results with the hand held shot. They always seem to lurk right outside my focal length!

Wow Nate, 75% of FF. Way to go! Nice warm light to. I might like a bit more light on the face, but the catchlight helps a lot.

Very nice..I have tried & tried & tried to get them in flight & there is a reason I've never posted one. I have struck out with every attempt. A lot of skill is required to pull this off..congratulations!
